Baltic Dry Index

English

It is an index that has been in use for nearly two hundred years.  It is an indicator related to dry cargo trade and freight prices.  A high index indicates the dynamism in world trade and therefore the rising prices of towels.  The data of about 600 companies holding the world's maritime transport are taken and published by the Baltic Stock Exchange.  Below you can see the chart of the Baltic Dry Index from 2018 to date.

As can be seen from the chart, it is obvious that the effect of the pandemic, which has intensified since 2020, on logistics is in the direction of the increase in the dry cargo index due to the increase in prices.  While the first effect was seen in a downward trend with the decrease in world trade, the lack of equipment experienced with the one-way logistics movement increased the index.  When examining the dry load index;  We must also consider other factors such as increased trade, port restrictions, regional trade wars, equipment availability, ship adequacy.  All these factors aside, the bare indicator of the index is an indicator of world raw material shipments, thus world trade.
