Today, energy is needed in all sectors. One of the most important of these areas is heating… While electrification continues to develop rapidly, carbon fuels are still used significantly for heating. Although natural gas is considered a transition fuel by the International Energy Agency, it is the most environmentally friendly and flexible fuel among carbon fuels. From our country's perspective, natural gas is the main fuel used for heating in all our cities.
We import a large portion of our natural gas, and we know its impact on the current account deficit. Drilling operations are underway to reduce this impact, but the use of other domestic resources also needs to be increased. Expanding the use of resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, and biomass is an important issue.
District heating is a more efficient method compared to individual heating. It is advantageous in terms of consumption and emissions. If district heating can be done with a domestic resource, it will be economical and sustainable. The incineration of waste produced in cities can generate both electricity and heat. In addition, by creating combined systems, agricultural and forestry waste in the region can also be incinerated to support production. If available in the region, geothermal resources and heat pumps can be used to provide support. Solar collectors and power plants can be combined with wind power plants. All these options should be examined in terms of the region's resources and how these resources can be organized and collected, in order to decide on the appropriate district heating method. In Europe, tens of thousands of homes are heated regionally using this method. Electricity is also generated and carbon capture is carried out. In this way, both safe heating based on local resources and an environmentally friendly organization are achieved.
In our sociological structure, individual heating methods are widespread, but with new technologies such as apartment stations, individual meters, and minimum heating requirements, district heating can provide the advantages of individual heating and greater comfort.
